Two-and-a-half years later, police shooter pleads guilty to two counts of attempted capital murder

After nearly 800 days in jail awaiting trial, Decoda Allen Blake, 36, pled guilty Wednesday to two separate counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer.
He will serve 50 years in prison for each count and the terms will run concurrently.

Because of the severity of the charges, they are considered '3G' which means that Blake will be required to serve a minimum of 25 years before being eligible for parole. His time in jail to this point will count toward that timeline.

Blake was arrested in May 2022 after an eight-hour standoff that followed a shootout with police officers on the north side of Brady.
Blake held several individuals hostage after shooting Brady Police Officer Zach Johnson at point blank range. Johnson's ballistic vest stopped the round and he was able to escape without any serious life-threatening injuries.

Department of Public Safety Special Response Team members ultimately took Blake into custody after storming the house to bring the standoff to an end.
Wednesday's plea deal was held in front of 452nd District Judge Rob Hofmann.
