Lisa Kidd, 68

July 24, 2024

With open arms, our Lord, along with a very special group of angels, welcomed home Lisa Margaret Ione Jones Kidd, of Menard, on July 15, 2024.

Lisa defined enduring love. She showed us all what it meant to love and be loved, with each and every one of her days on Earth, no matter the circumstances. When she laughed, you felt happiness, when she smiled, you felt joy, when she hugged you, you felt love, and when we felt peace, we knew she had prayed for us.

Born on June 27, 1956, to Juanita Drake Jones and W.C. "Dub" Jones, Lisa was brought home to the family ranch in Christoval where her childhood years would be filled with an exponentially growing agriculture education.

The development of her green-thumb came from the days of helping her mother tend to the garden and yard. Her nurturing soul, both culinary and care-giving, came from providing for the two and four-legged ranch population. She might have been born into ranching, but she chose to become the fifth generation with immense pride.

Lisa attended and graduated from Christoval High School in 1974 and found success in the classroom, on the basketball court, tennis court, and sidelines of the football field as she served as captain of the cheer squad. She was devoted to the success of the Christoval athletic program even after graduating, and was named Booster of the Year.

Lisa attended Texas A&M University and found herself returning back to West Texas as her unconditional love for children led her to take a job at the YMCA. She soon met a fellow ranch-raised, aggie and a courtship began. On a record setting day of plummeting temperatures and ice covered roads, Jerry Kidd and Lisa Jones said "I do" Jan. 6, 1979.

As a wife, Lisa symbolized loyalty and warmth. She was Jerry's true life partner, both on and off the ranch and in everything they accomplished, it was always done together. As they operated ranchland over the years in Tom Green, Schleicher, McCulloch, and Menard counties while Jerry worked for AgriLife Extension, Lisa didn't just manage the house, she always made it a home.

One of Lisa's personal life goals, was to be a mother. She was blessed to have had a great one herself, and knew without a doubt she wanted to give and provide that type of love to a child. God blessed Lisa and Jerry with William Casey Kidd, and Katherine "Katie Bird" Kidd.  As they grew, so did Lisa's devotion and commitment to being a mother. From Halloween costumes, birthday parties, classroom treats and all things in between, Lisa had a gift for turning home-made into made from the heart. She was present and proud as she cheered at every stock-show, clay shoot, football game, basketball game, one-act play, graduations and her family’s life events. Whatever project the kids enrolled in or brought home, they knew that mom would help them find success in their own way and time. Her spirit was contagious, and numerous 4-Hers and her children's classmates always benefited from her labors of love.

In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, Lisa knew she had to find different means to support her family due to the ever looming threat of drought conditions. She became a licensed real estate agent shortly after the family moved to Brady. Life had prepared her to succeed at this endeavor. She loved the land, always had an open ear, and an understanding heart. She happily spent over 25 years with DeBord Real Estate helping people find their version of home.

Often sporting maroon and an A&M logo, Lisa let most know, cheering for the Aggies was non-negotiable. Fall brought the excitement of loading the Airstream and heading to Aggieland to catch a few football games with family. Lisa anticipated every family gathering with child-like excitement. Ruidoso, Round Top, holidays, reunions-family is what brought pure joy to her world.

As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, cousin and friend she had a pure and unique way of providing care and love. It was her gift to us all. Enduring love.

Lisa was embraced at heavens gates by her son, mother and father. She is preceded in death by grandparents, C.W. Drake and Hazel Lacewell, aunt, Ione Drake VanCourt, Richard H. VanCourt, Billy F. and Rosalyn Kidd.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jerry Kidd of Menard; daughter, Katie Bird Kidd, of Killeen; brother, Currie Jones and wife, JoAnn, of Christoval; sister in-law, Nancy Williamson, and husband, John, of Menard; nieces, Kami Williamson of Leander, Jaime Jones Tankersley and husband, Wes, of Mertzon; nephews, James Williamson and wife, Lyndsey, of Abilene, Will Jones and wife, Lindy, of Mertzon; and the apples of her great-aunt eye, Jud and Emmie Williamson, Gage and Jentry B. Tankersley, Wyatt and Whit Jones.
